Area Converter: How to Convert Land, Flooring, and Property Measurements Between Square Feet, Acres, and Square Meters

Area conversions show up in some of the biggest purchases you will make: buying land listed in acres when you think in hectares, ordering flooring sold by the square foot for a room you measured in meters, or comparing property listings across countries that use different units. Getting the conversion wrong means ordering too much material — or too little.

Our free Area Converter handles every common unit instantly, but knowing the relationships helps you sanity-check results and estimate on the fly.

Real-World Conversion Examples

1. Flooring and Renovation

A room that measures 4 m × 5 m is 20 m². Flooring is often priced per square foot, so convert: 20 × 10.764 = 215.3 ft². Always add 5–10% for waste and cuts. Our area converter gives you the exact figure in one step.

2. Buying Land

A rural property listed at 2.5 acres: multiply by 0.4047 to get 1.01 hectares, or by 4,046.86 to get 10,117 m². If a listing quotes 0.5 hectares, that is about 1.24 acres. Land buyers routinely lose track of which unit the price per unit refers to — always convert to one unit before comparing two properties.

3. International Real Estate

An apartment advertised as 85 m² in Europe is about 915 ft² — a common size for a two-bedroom. A US listing of 1,200 ft² is about 111 m². Converting before comparing keeps the numbers honest.
